hmmmmm interesting! i am speechless. that u talk about BOB'S face to face. i agreed with u..... as we fight for GALLUADET. we are friend GALLAUDET. i think BOB see us as invisible friend...... it's sound like rude. as we want show people we supports for Gallaudet. what the hell wrong with him? wow i don't know what i should say more....... it's got a lot going on my mind. u have good point about it. but..... i noticed some students from Galluadet which is friends of mine. some them transfer to NTID...... so it's sound like Gallaudet's friend as NTID, OTHER STUFF COLLEGES it's FOR STUDENTS'S NEEDS MEETS THEIR GOALS! so what is it make different story? oh gosh just wait and see what other people said about it and i will come check their comments later. that's all i have to say right now. thank for ur sharing to discuss open. it's very interesting discuss issues about BOB...... hmmm by the way keep up with ur videoclips! Judge,

What a sight for sore eyes. :-) Is it that you wanted to know how I felt about the Gally pin being earmarked only for Gally alumni? I can't remember the parameters. Dr. Davila didn't ask me if I was an alumnus when I told him the goat joke. Go figure. :-) Maybe I was too pretty for him to inquire. But anyhow, your question is a good one.

Hi Judge:

Closing argument: Bob should give you a pin at first place. FSSA wouldn’t success without allies.

Here is burden of proof that is beyond the reasonable doubt:

Here is his Vlog: http://pr.gallaudet.edu/video/?vid=13

I copied and pasted from his transcript:

This week I want everyone to know that the Team Gallaudet pins
have arrived and I am looking forward to giving out pins to individuals
who want to be part of Team Gallaudet. Let me tell you what this
means for you and me to be part of Team Gallaudet. First, it is not
about me. It’s not “my” team. This is about a team of all people on
campus, and those affiliated with Gallaudet who want to help our
students succeed.

Secondly, this is about teamwork. It’s about each one of us giving
assistance to others. It’s about having a “can do” attitude.

Thirdly, it’s about helping and sharing our energy and spirit, making a
difference in the lives of other people.

Fourthly, it’s about showing respect for everyone; respecting the
diversity of our people here and ideas. It’s all right to have different
ideas, but it’s about respecting each other, whether we agree or not.

The fifth point, it’s about meeting the many challenges we face
ahead. We can’t succeed without you. We need you on our team.

Sixth, it’s about striving for and attaining excellence in everything we
do. It’s about going the extra mile, going beyond our everyday
responsibilities and doing more.

Seventh, it’s about having a good, positive attitude, being pleasant,
smiling, offering other people on this campus assistance, and asking
them, “Can I help you?” “How can we work together better?” and so
forth.

That’s the idea of the attitude and spirit I want to see on this campus.
Together the Gallaudet community will succeed. We have the
knowledge, skills, attitude, and ability to really make it work. I really
look forward to working with you, every one of you, in the coming
days and months remaining during my service here at Gallaudet.
Now I ask you to please join me in going out and doing something

today to make this a special day for another person on the campus.
Reach out to your friends, to others you perhaps don’t see everyday,
who aren’t nearby, but who want to help. Join Team Gallaudet !

I’ll be around and about on campus so when you see me, come up
and tell me that you want to join Team Gallaudet, and I will give you a
pin. I’m really proud of this pin. It’s special. I want you to be my
special team member. Thank you and so long.

Judge,

Great to see u back! I miss you too!

My heart ache when I watched your VLOG. I am Gallaudet Alumni and I believe Dr. Davila should grab the opporttunity and get anyone's support. I wonder if Davila would give Team Gallaudet Pin to James Lee Sorenson if he asked.

Please continue to support Gallaudet any way you can.

Hey do I see some white hair and wrinkles?

Welcome back!

You mentioned "Friends" of FSSA. You bought up an excellent point. We ought spread the words and I concur its great idea to add to FSSA.

Not surprise you may get your wish. :-)

It is always better to be inclusive than to be exclusive. The more supporters we have for Gallaudet, the better it is! It seems so divisive to me to be giving pins to Gallaudetians only. Sorry that you had to experience what you did.

I am pretty sure that Bob does not know if you have donated the money to the Gallaudet. You have not shown your Gallaudet "donator" card to him.

As for me, I would have mailed you a Team Gallaudet pin IF I get the donation and the letter from you.

Make sense?

Hi there!

I am surprised to know that Bob did not provide you a pin "Team Gallaudet."

I personally thought Team Gallaudet is inclusive for everyone in the campus and outside for whose support Gallaudet very graciously for our future of deaf and hard of hearing generations to preserve deaf culture, language, folklore, and others. Not only to this matter, the students, who attend Gallaudet, have rights to receive high quality education and walk into the future of successful for everyone's recognition of Gallaudet.

I am NTID/Gallaudet alumni and I love both very much as my warmest heart and light. Gallaudet and NTID/RIT inspired me with many things to remember during my college years.

I believe Gallaudet University should allow any FRIENDS of Gallaudet community to commit their support and contribute such as donations or involve in any volunteer activites or special events on the campus.
Perhaps, someday NTID/Gallaudet Alumnus work together with any certain events such as charity for scholarship to support prospective students to attend. For reason, the funds may cut by VR someday or parents can't afford to support their child to attend both schools. More events to gather for recreational purposes.

I hope Team Gallaudet will reconsider this effort for any FRIENDS to suport Gallaudet anything. It is important to rapport each other within our community.

Thank you for your sharing with us on video clip.

Warm regards,

Nick Vera

I agree with Aidan Mack...that topic "Bob should give you a pin at first place. FSSA wouldn’t success without allies." and, should be share to everyone who was member gallaudet or former student gallaudet.

By the way catch up with your videoclip!

I can imagine that you felt
disappointed and disillusioned. Perhaps you would change Dr. Davila's mind if you would
gently propose in the form
of a letter -- instead of an
email -- that friends,
however hearing or deaf,
be considered as loyalists
of Gallaudet if they
contribute in ANY shape
or form enough to earn
a pin of Team Gallaudet.

I thought FSSA stands for FRIENDS, Staff, Students and Alumnus.

We can't miss you in the NY Giants sweater on your way to Capitol Hill, as evidently shown here: http://www.eyethstudios.com/albums/capitolmarch/index.html of which you were there to show your full support to Gallaudet. You're a true friend supporter of Team Gallaudet. You deserve to receive the pin!

Wow! This is taking arrogance to a new level....

At the Academic Bowl competition, we had Dessert at the President House. He pretty much handed out pins to the participants, coaches, parents, etc. who asked for it. I doubt everybody there are going to Gallaudet, am Gallaudet alumni, or are Gallaudet students.

Hmmm mmm.

Bob started a can of worms by announcing that he would give out Team Gallaudet pins and then maybe realizing that he should put his foot in his mouth when he could not afford to buy many pins for everyone. Maybe Gallaudet refused to reimburse him back so he lost money on the pins? Who knows.

Is it a common thing for an university president to be giving out pins to people? I'm sure it costs a lot of money to have these pins made. Dr. Davila should have thought about it before jumping into the bandwagon and if it was going to be expensive.

Once you decide to give out stuff, you have to give it to everyone or cuz you will run into a lot of problems (getting people quite disappointed or singled out or whatever)

Judge said...

Jay, here is the conflict!! Give out to everyone! I am laughing.

Vikee -- Yeah, very inconsistent action by him. That brings a new question, Can we count on his words??

Barb DiGi said...

Amazing, amazing! I just don't get it..my first impression about this pin idea was for anyone who expresses interests in participating and facilitiating the concept of the TEAM Gallaudet as mentioned in Bob's vlog.

It seems to me that he is not being consistent about whom gets the pin. He gave out to those who he did not even question whether they were an alumni as mentioned by Jay during the Academic Bowl. Perhaps he was saving these pins for this designated group of people and a way to recruit their deaf children to Gallaudet?

Anyhow, I just find this odd and uncharacteristic of the current Gallaudet interim President. I am just taken back from his response to your request. But hey who gives a fug about the pin! It is what your spirit and love for Gallaudet that count!

mochame said...

Did you write to FSSA Leader and GUAA Alumni to discuss about your situation to Pres. Davila?? I think you should deserve to get a pin, Also i have some friend who is in Gallaudet and Alumni too. I should get a pin too. I don't understand why the TENT CITY include friends support Gallaudet, FSSA first place then we don't get a pin.

Judge said...

Barb, You got it right. The point of the story is the principle Bob isn't following his words.

Sue, did he run out of the pins? I don't think so bec he would have told me "I ran out of the pins".

Jay said...

Barb,

Dr. Davila isnt interim anymore. The BoT have made a brief and quick announcement few weeks ago making him a full 9th president. But I think his term remains at 18 or so months.

Jay said...

And yes, the whole Academic Bowl is Gallaudet's recuitment stunt -- operated by their admissions office and related offices. I think this is a good public relations for Gallaudet, anyway.

There were folks before me meeting Dr. Davila. Until it was my turn, I asked for the pin, and then I think I have started him spilling it out because others around me saw that and handed out their hands asking for it as well.

I doubt Dr. Davila could maintain control like he did to you, Judge, in that scene.

Barb DiGi said...

Jay,

Thanks for the clarification. Although Dr. Davila is recognized as the 9th president but there is a timeline for him to "retire". Interim means temporary or in transition of so that is what Dr. Davila's status as a Gallaudet President.

Perhaps Bob reacts differently depending on his mood. One day being merry, the other being selective and so on. We can make all of the assumption we want but it doesn't change the fact that Davila does make a decision on who gets the pin as experienced by Phil.

Judge said...

From what I understand, Bob Davila is officially 9th president. New president will be the 10th if Gallaudet *finds* one! :)

From a reliable source, he may extend his stay little longer than 24 months. I don't know how reliable (his/her) word is!

IamMine said...

Wow, that stinks, Judge.

The judges typically get special treatment, don't they? ;)

Next time, don't pull the judge thing, but a "goat" joke. *wink*

Sorry you didn't get a pin...

It's just that...a pin.

Unless it's something that you could make a lot of money on E-Bay in 20 years.

Sorry to be making a light of this situtation...but yeah, he could have included "friends" of Gallaudet.

I supported FSSA and I was not even a Galladuet alumni.

I guess I better think of a new "goat" joke if I ever bump into Davila.

Thanks, Mary Ruth for leading the way... *hands chuckling*
